Step 1
Roaches generally gravitate towards the bathroom or kitchen. It is imperative to keep these areas as clean as possible. Do not leave dishes in the sink or food unwrapped on the counter.
Step 2
Wipe down your kitchen counters nightly, being sure to clean in even hard-to-reach places. Use a disinfectant spray on these surfaces.
Step 3
If you have a dishwasher, be sure to thoroughly scrape and rinse plates and utensils before putting them in.
Step 4
Do not let garbage accumulate. Store garbage in a can with a lid.
Step 5
Roaches like water, so do not let standing water sit in your bathroom or kitchen.
Step 6
Reduce the number of places roaches could hide--behind cookbooks or knickknacks. Keep your counter space as clean and empty as possible at all time.
Step 7
Roaches follow each other around by their feces--these are the small black or brown marks you may seen around. Clean all these marks thoroughly with a disinfectant.
Step 8
Place roach traps in areas where you often see roaches. Child- and pet-safe roach traps can be purchased at most grocery or "big-box" stores.
Step 9
Hire an exterminator to spray your apartment. Be sure they spray the areas where roaches likely congregate--such as behind counters or large appliances and in small dark areas.
